Metal & Shine

Hi Lovelies!

Christmas is almost here, and I can't believe it! I wanted to share something special with y'all that has been in the works for almost 8 months now.  My friend Brooke created this beautiful skirt for a school project.  I thought I would share her design process with you.  She let me borrow it to wear too!

In the Spring of 2016, she had to design a garment for her advanced apparel design class. All of the garments would be shown in the spring Apparel Merchandising and Product Development fashion show. The theme of the fashion show was Metal and Shine!

Brooke knew right away she wanted to do a dramatic skirt with some gold fabric. Her next step was to do some trend research and create a trend board. Then she created a pattern for her skirt by using a design software which allows you to draft and print your pattern directly from a computer.  How cool is that?

Here is the trend board she created for her inspiration.

Once Brooke found the perfect fabric, it took her about two weeks of class time to complete her skirt.

On April 20, 2016, Brooke's skirt made it down the runway. It looked amazing!  The way the lights hit the gold fabric was stunning!  Her professors chose 12 of the 72 designs to be featured in the "Hall of Fashion."  For the Hall of Fashion, the garments were displayed on dress forms in the main hallway of the Economics building.  The 12 designs were then judged  by a panel of Alumni.  Brooke's design was chosen as one of the top 5 garments!!!  The top 5 garments went on a trip to China where there were featured in a fashion exhibit at the South China Agricultural University in Guangzhou, Guangdong, China.  I'm so impressed with Brooke and her skills.  Everything she does is so fabulous!

Fast forward a few months to when I get to wear her skirt!! The fabric is luxurious!  The weight and quality of the fabric is very high-end.  These picture do not do the skirt justice.  The metallic shine is to die for especially when the light hits the skirt perfectly.  I wish I could wear this skirt everyday!

Meet Brooke!!! Brooke graduated on Dec 15th! She moved away from Arkansas, but I am so proud of her.  I can't wait to wear more amazing garments that Brooke designs!

I'll leave you with one more photo because I couldn't choose just 4 to share.

I hope you all have a very blessed and Merry Christmas with your friends and family!

XOXO,

Love K.Leigh

Holiday Looks

Hello Friends!

I can't believe it's one week into December and only 12 days till Christmas! I love celebrating Christmas and getting dressed up for holiday events.  I collaborated with my friends at Versona to bring you my favorite holiday looks.  I styled four looks for you with some of my favorite colors and textures.  I am completely obsessed with all things velvet and sparkly this year.  Lush fabrics like velvet, satin,  and fur just scream holiday to me, so I try to wear them as much as possible.  Of course everything is better with a little sparkle!

My first look is this gold and black look.  This is my favorite look of the four.  I paired this gold off the shoulder sweater with a little black dress! The black dress is solid on the top,  but has this fun fringe at the bottom.

Fringe Dress now on sale $35 // Gold Sweater // Shooties

Next I wanted to show you this fabulous tulle skirt! It has gold sequins underneath that sparkle through the tulle! I always feel so girly when I get to wear a tulle skirt.  I was obsessed with them even as a kid.  I paired this one with these amazing burgundy velvet shoes and a burgundy plaid top.

Burgundy Velvet Heel only $35 //

For the next outfit I chose a sequined dress.  I love the pattern and colors in the sequins.  I added this fur shawl to give another layer to the outfit.  This would be  a great look for a fancy night out on the town or headed to a fabulous Christmas party.

Lastly,  I paired navy velvet with leather leggings! I layered the navy velvet tank with a navy cardigan.  Navy velvet has become one of my favorite trends this season. It looks so elegant and can be dressed up or down.  These leather leggings are so comfy! This would be perfect to wear to a friend's Christmas party.

Hope you enjoyed my looks.  Leave me a comment below and let me know which one is your favorite and what your favorite trend is for holiday!

Have a great night!

Black Friday

Hi Lovelies!

It's here! The biggest shopping day of the year!  I linked some of my favorite sale finds below along with a few fun facts about Black Friday.

Do you do all of your shopping on Black Friday? I have worked every Black Friday for the past 11 years, so I have never done much shopping on the big day but working is always crazy and fun.

Here are some fun facts I found on usnews.com:
-Back in the 1960s, Black Friday first got its name.  Account books were kept using pen and ink. The day's sales helped stores move from red (loss) to black (profit).
-Americans spend more time shopping on Thanksgiving weekend than they do visiting Disney's hottest spots.
-More people are injured or killed on Black Friday than by sharks. It's crazy to think about that!
-Three most popular things purchased are TV's, Movies and Pajama's.

Good luck with all your Black Friday adventures!

XOXO,

Chicago My Way

Hello Friends!
Chicago is a city I fell in love with back on a college trip for my apparel studies class in November 2006.  Now 10 years later one of my best friends started a new career in Chicago, so I went to visit her.  Chicago was still as magical as I remembered it.  I just love the vibe of the city. The hustle and bustle of people on Michigan Avenue, gorgeous architecture, and of course the shopping. The food was amazing too!

Song represents our Pitch Perfect marathon :)

I put together a list of my favorite places there. On your next trip to Chicago make sure to check out a few of them and let me know what you think.

The Bean

Lincoln Park was so fun!  We walked for miles people watching and talking.  We walked along the edge of the lake until we got the perfect view of the city.   I could have just sat there for hours looking at the view.

I walked over 5 miles in these booties!  They are so perfect for daily wear.

Another favorite activity was going on the First Lady of Chicago architecture boat tour.  GORGEOUS is an understatement.  Being on the river in-between all the skyscrapers was breath taking.   Learning about the architecture design was very educational.  Here are a few of my favorite pics.

Of course shopping on Michigan Ave. was fabulous. We shopped till we dropped and then we got Starbucks.

Found these OTK boots at Nordstrom Rack for $67 I was so pumped!
This poncho is from The Limited I also got this cardigan from The Limited

Now for the food:

RPM Italian is amazing! I loved getting dressed up for a fun night out.  The atmosphere and the food was just perfect.  The only thing that could have made this night even sweeter would have been to accidentally run into Giuliana and Bill Rancic! We ate so much food and everything tasted so good.  If you ever go make sure you get the prime beef meatballs on the appetizer menu and try the Chocolate Torta dessert both were delicious.  We also tried the truffled garlic bread, prosciutto tortelloni, and potato gnocchi.  Definitely cannot wait to go back!

The Chocolate Torta is melt in your mouth amazing!

Cindy’s on the Rooftop-I felt like I was in a greenhouse.  The curved glass roof opened up to a gorgeous balcony.  The wood accents, mason jars, and the fabulous bar added to the atmosphere.   We missed the kitchen being open for lunch so we just had their signature cocktails and chilled until it was time to head to the boat tour.  Check out this view!  So cool seeing The Bean from all the way up here too.

Beatrix: Best brunch EVER!  Another fun spot decorated with lots of natural elements including wood and ferns.  Loved the mimosas, but you know that’s one of my favorite drinks. I ate the lemon pancakes. Can I just say they were the best thing I have eaten since my wedding cake.   They were super fluffy and drizzled with lemon syrup.  I seriously wish I could go back every Sunday to eat them. Ha!

Big Star Tacos: We ate here one night and I met some of  Libby’s friends.   This was another awesome hang out spot.  So popular we had to wait over an hour for a table and this place had TONS of tables.  The majority of the seating was outside. It has lots of heat lamps for the cool nights. Big doors lead into a small indoor space with a huge bar.  They are known for having great margaritas and I would have to agree they were pretty fab.   They have lots of fun tacos to choose from.  I tried the Taco De Panza, Taco De Papas Con Rajas, and Taco Pollo.  All were super good,  but my favorite was the Taco De Papas Con Rajas.

I had so much fun hanging out with Libby, meeting all her friends and checking out all her favorite spots.   She always knows how to find the best places to hang out.  I cannot wait to plan my next trip to visit here.

Until next time… I will be over here dreaming about Chicago

Love K.Leigh
